Prof. Joyce Liddle

 

Professor Joyce Liddle, Centre for Public and Social Policy, University of Nottingham

 

Dr Joyce Liddle is an Associate Professor in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Nottingham. In recent years the majority of her research has focused on local and regional governance, public sector management and change, public sector strategic management, public and private partnerships, regeneration and socio-economic development. She is co-author of 'Management of regeneration: Choices, challenges and dilemmas' (2005, Routledge), and 'Managing Cities' (2007, Routledge). She contributes to numerous local, regional, national and European forums and is one of two UK representatives on the European Foundation for Management (Public Sector Network) scientific committee in Brussels, Belgium .


She is also the editor and book review editor of the International Journal of Public Sector Management (http://www.emeraldinsight.com/) and was awarded ‘Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence, Leading Editor, 2005’ Emerald Publishers, Bradford, UK. This was awarded by 140 Managing editors and Emerald Board of Directors for outstanding editorial duties. She is also the invited international editor of Ege Academic Review Journal, Ege, Bornova, Izmir, Turkey http://www.eab.ege.edu.tr/english.html, as well as invited editorial board member of Local Government Studies, Research Advisory Member of the Journal of Place Management and Development, and Editorial Advisory Board Member, International Management Journals, http://www.managementjournals.com/


Dr Liddle has over 20 years experience in practice, teaching, researching and consultancy. Previous positions have included, Executive Officer in the Home Civil Service, Company Director and Company Secretary, Research Officer and Training Officer. She has taught, researched and provided consultancy in public management to many UK and overseas public agencies.


Before being appointed as Associate Professor of Public Policy and MPA Course Director, she spent seven years as MA in Management Director at Durham Business School, and nine years as MBA Director at Sunderland Business School.


She was responsible for setting up a Regeneration Management Research Forum, which now alternates annually between Liverpool and Nottingham, and includes academics and practitioners.


Outside of research work, she is a regular reviewer for Routledge and other respectable publishers, and regularly contributes to regional and national press and media. While she was located in the North East, she was a regular BBC radio presenter on politics and current affairs, and provided the analysis on General Elections and the North East Referendum results. It is anticipated that Dr Liddle will continue her radio appearances in the East Midlands.
