Management Clinics now on! |
DNA
Management Clinic Success
The 1st DNA Management Clinic was held on
the 12th of March at the Waterton Centre. A group comprising
seven members of staff from five companies participated in
the clinic presented by Doctors Paul and Andrew Thomas. The
aim of the clinic was to critically reflect on the current
and future management roles within the respective companies.
Feedback from the group was extremely positive
and as a result, a series of critical thinking projects are
now being organised to run within each of the companies.
DNA Wales would like to thank the participants
and their sponsoring companies for their support and involvement.
If you feel you or your organisation might

A Case of Gore Associates: Democracy in the Workplace
For the fourth year running, W.L. Gore and Associates rank
1st in the Times ‘100 best companies to work for in
the UK’ poll. The company was founded almost 50 years
ago by American scientist Bill Gore and his wife Vieve.
They believed a nonhierarchical environment would allow
creative minds to flourish. As a direct result of this belief,
there are no job titles and no managers, just associates.
“We are successful because of the ability of our associates
to grow, explore and learn in an environment of freedom
and trust.”

Waterton
Challenge
The 2007 Waterton Management Challenge has
come to an exciting and thought provoking finale with a House
of Commons style debate between tool expert John Bicheno &
Paul Thomas. Considering whether management tools help or
hinder organisational performance, the informal and interactive
style of debate allowed for a stimulating discussion and the
airing of challenging and contrasting opinions.
Designed to develop critical management reflection
in organisations, the final debate was a fitting end to the
2007 Waterton Management Challenge series. The series started
in January with Shay McConnon’s entertaining and magical
discussion on developing leadership not just leaders and followed
in February with Elizabeth Macmillan’s thought provoking
ideas of examining Natures Toolbox.
Event reviews attest to the success of this
years Waterton Management Challenge, with attendees reporting
the concept of complexity science fascinating and a wide opinion
that the contrasting views presented really challenged their
perspectives of management and leadership values.
We would like to extend our thanks to all
event attendees, sponsors and organisers for their support
in making the 2007 Waterton Management Challenge such a success.

Paul Thomas adds the DNA Wales tag to the Belfast Peace
Line (2006). |
Celebrity
Showcase
Yes it’s that time again for an in
depth interview with a high profile celebrity. Unfortunately
Richard Branson wasn’t available so instead we chatted
to the founder and visionary of DNA Wales, Dr Paul Thomas.
Paul is into complexity theory in a big way.
His aim in life is to make Welsh organisations democratic,
fun and enjoyable places to work. He wants to inspire organisational
vision driven by the needs and passion of the people integral
to an organisations sustainability, creativity and innovation:
its employees, customers and end consumers.
Paul is the person most likely to ask WHY
repeatedly. He really likes sport (playing not watching),
intelligent conversations, and warm summertime nights.
When we asked Paul what upsets him the most
he had plenty to say. “My main grievance is reserved
for managers, those individuals who are control freaks, status
driven, teaching disordered, socially inadequate individuals
who tend to ruin life for a large number of people, without
being imprisoned or punished! Oh yes, people who become sports
referees on the weekend and ‘Planners’ or people
who think they can tell the future… Nnnnooooooo!!!!!
Also drivers who don’t use indicators…”
At this point we left the room as we thought we saw Terry
Matthews down the corridor!
