Managers as Gardeners

DNA Wales and GTi Plus

In December DNA Wales presented at the Valley’s Innovation Centre near Abercynon to the business network of GTiPlus. GTi is an incubation centre set up for budding entrepreneurs and has taken the idea of hot-desking further with the introduction of ‘warm-desking’ areas which offers start-up businesses a dedicated space in a shared office.

The aim of the session was to highlight the value of giving up power, status and control to become a Gardner for success.

“Very entertaining, it certainly made me think”
“Fitted perfectly with my values and philosophy"

Celebrity Showcase

In every issue, we’ll introduce you to a member of the DNA Wales Team. This feature - Doc Andrew Thomas, a family man.

You can find me at:  On rare occasions I have been known to frequent Cardiff Business School but mainly you will see me driving up and down the M4 going to companies and attending meetings.
I am the person who is:  In the background trying to make things happen. Not really a front man so don't get me to be the singer in a boy band!!
I get upset:  With time wasting activities that add no value (I sound like a Lean consultant but without the cash!)
I studied:  B.Eng Mechanical Engineering and then MSc and D.Eng in manufacturing management. Attended on a day release / distance learning scheme so missed out on the excellent University Life (or so I am told repeatedly by my wife).
I like:  Being with my kids (oh and my wife just in case she reads this). I like challenges and assisting companies to grow and prosper (wish I had the guts to do it myself!)
I really like:  Being on my 15000 acre estate (which is the West Wales countryside) and backs onto my little house. Out of the rat race!
One day I will:  Run my own business
Soapbox:

My research interests lie with manufacturing management and primarily the future of manufacturing in the UK. How do we ensure a future for our children when so much is being sent to overseas competitors? What do we need to do in order to transform our economy and how do we do it?
